The Trinity

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (NRSV, Matthew 28:16–20)

13 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. (NRSV, 2 Corinthians 13:13)

Most Christians believe in the concept of the Trinity. There is only one God, but He reveals Himself to us in three persons: God the Father in heaven, Jesus the Son who came into the world for our salvation, and the Holy Spirit who guides us now that Jesus is no longer physically present. As with many things about God, the exact nature of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are mysteries we cannot fully understand. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is our best attempt to understand the many Bible passages about these three aspects of God. For more information: What Is the Trinity?
