God is Love

⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. (NRSV, 1 John 4:8)

⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. ⁷ Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (NIV, Luke 12:6–7)

In the Old Testament, God is viewed as a harsh master who must be placated and obeyed to avoid severe punishment. But Jesus gave us a new understanding of God. God is like a loving father who cares for all people of the world and wants us live in harmony with Him now and eternally (Matthew 5:44-45, 7:8-11, Luke 15:4-7).
